5 Medical Careers to Consider if You’re a People Person
Nov 12th, 2009 by admin
The healthcare industry is always looking for qualified people to fill thousands of positions that become available each year. There’s a wide variety of options, some require more schooling that others, and still others will pay more. If you’re looking, however, for a position that will allow you to use your people-skills, there are certain areas of the industry you should focus on. Here are 5 medical careers to consider if you’re a people person.
Nursing – Becoming a nurse is probably one of the best choices to make if you are a people person. Some nurses start and go from an LPN to RN depending on what the person is interested in. Nursing is both rewarding for you and the patients you take care of. Many people become frightened when they are in the hospital. Because a nurse interacts more with patients than the doctors do they are able to learn more about the patient. They are also a familiar figure that the patient grows to rely and lean on. As a nurse you’ll be able to put your patients at ease.
Certified Nursing Assistant – Although the pay is less, and a certified nursing assistant can’t do many of the things that a registered nurse or a licensed practical nurse can do, the position is just as rewarding. You’ll interact directly with the patients and, just as the registered nurses do, you’ll get to know the patient. Believe it or not, many patients will open up to a CNA before they’ll open up to a nurse. This will give you the opportunity to use your people skills on a daily basis.
Physical Therapist – What a joy it is to see someone achieve their goals. This is what a physical therapist can help a patient to do. You can use your people skills to encourage a person and support their efforts to regain their abilities that were lost when they became ill. There’s nothing like seeing triumph, and nothing like being a part of it.
Physicians Assistant – Now here is a career that really allows you to let the people person in you blossom. This is because you’ll care for many of the people you see over and over again. This gives you the opportunity to help, and encourage them at many different stages of life. Whether it’s the young, middle-aged or the elderly, you’ll be able to get to know what their needs are both emotionally and physically.
Human Resources – That’s right. Being a people person is an excellent attribute for someone that deals with employees and all the issues that can arise throughout the course of their employment. People who work in the medical field can become overwhelmed with what they see and hear every day. Having someone in human resources that will listen to what they have to say is not only an asset to the industry, but a rewarding career for you.
If you’re a people person, and you’re looking for a career in the medical field that will afford you the opportunity to connect with others, these 5 positions will allow you to do just that.
